“My Twitter looks different” -- And other social media changes

There have been a lot of changes for social media tools in the past couple weeks. Some were announced, and some happened under the radar, but all of them can impact how you interact with your clients and/or customers online as well as how they engage with your brand.

Because it can be hard to keep track, below you will find a list of the links we have found most helpful throughout the “social-media-update-palooza.” (Okay, maybe we should work on the name.)

Twitter

Besides the addition of a camera icon on your tweet box that allows you to share photos without leaving Twitter, the little bird has been busy adding other features lately

Facebook

  • New tool allows official page administrators to merge duplicate pages
  • Facebook working on updates to the News Feed
  • Improvements to Facebook Games, new Edgerank score and recap of their chat changes
  • This may not be much cause for alarm, but you can’t say we didn’t warn you: Rumored Nov. 5 attack on Facebook

Foursquare

  • Any business can now easily create a Foursquare business page
  • Users can now check-in at events such as movies and concerts using an official Foursquare feature
  • Foursquare Lists will allow users to compile places they’ve been or want to go
  • Changes made to Foursquare for iPhones including addition of friends’ photos in the activity stream
  • Not quite an update, but it’s interesting: NBC 10 in Philadelphia is having reporters check into their locations and post updates as the news develops for one story a day

Google+

  • New link on YouTube allows users to easily share videos in a Google+ Hangout

Important Privacy Updates

It just came out that LinkedIn’s default settings give the site permission to use people’s names and photos in its advertising. Learn more about risky social media default settings.
