Since their founding in 1880, Davey Tree has grown into more than a tree trimming service, providing comprehensive landscaping, grounds management, residential tree care services and environmental consultations. While having an impressive range of horticultural and ecological services, Davey ran into hiring issues due to the lack of knowledge surrounding their lesser-known offerings such as environmental consulting for invasive species and storm response. They needed help reaching potential employees about their abundance of open positions.
However, Davey Tree wanted to accomplish more than filling their current openings; they wanted to develop a hiring strategy to solve the root of their problem: awareness. An approach built around their full-service offerings would simultaneously increase recognition and educate both future employees and potential customers. So that's exactly what we did.
At thunder::tech, we wanted to create an engaging way to share the range of Davey’s expertise to attract both potential clients and employees. Additionally, as an employee-owned company, it was essential to highlight all the benefits available at the company, including stock options, long-term employment and career growth opportunities. We decided a video format would be the perfect way to showcase the work and company culture.
In order to establish an authentic experience that accurately reflects the responsibilities of Davey Tree experts, our thunder::tech team captured footage of Davey employees in the field, hard at work. We spent three days on-site shooting at various locations across Northeast Ohio to highlight what a day working at Davey would be like, including residential neighborhood utility work, field asset management and park system water quality testing. Interviews with the employees testified to the company culture and gave first-hand accounts of their experiences.
Initially, we set out to make five videos to show what it's like to work at Davey Tree and showcase what they offer, leading to successfully filling many of their open positions. However, due to the videos' positive response, Davey returned for a mashup reel that would level up their HR Marketing strategy.
