Foundations is the leading manufacturer of commercial children’s furnishings, but their e-commerce experience was holding them back. Their legacy site, built on Magento, was outdated and difficult to manage—limiting both performance and flexibility. While a strong user experience can exist on older platforms, this one didn’t deliver the flow, clarity or scalability the business needed.
At the same time, Foundations serves multiple audiences across regions, industries and purchase types. They needed an e-commerce platform that could support consumer and bulk purchasing as well as manage different pricing and availability for the U.S. and Canada. On top of that, the platform had to provide a seamless experience across both childcare and hospitality audiences without sacrificing speed or stability.
With a compressed timeline and a critical launch window, Foundations needed a partner who could move fast, solve complex e-commerce challenges and deliver a modern experience built to scale.
thunder::tech led the migration from Magento to Shopify, rebuilding the e-commerce experience with a focus on usability, flexibility and long-term growth. The new platform delivered immediate improvements to both the customer experience and internal site management.
We implemented advanced filtering and search capabilities across product listing pages—a custom functionality that goes beyond Shopify’s native sorting. This allows users to quickly find the right products while giving the Foundations team the ability to easily extend those filters to new categories and pages.
And to support multiple audiences and markets, we created a bifurcated experience through thoughtful CMS and creative strategy. A region selector, market-specific pricing and content visibility rules ensured users only saw what was relevant to them.
Using Shopify Flow, we built custom workflows to support volume pricing, customer group assignment and discounted catalogs—laying the groundwork for scalable B2B growth.
Despite a tight timeline, the project launched successfully thanks to a fast-paced, highly collaborative working relationship. Clear communication, frequent check-ins and an intensive QA and beta-testing process ensured everything functioned as expected before launch. In the final stretch, daily standups and rapid feedback loops kept momentum high and expectations aligned.
The result was a fully rebuilt e-commerce ecosystem designed to support how Foundations sells today and how they’ll grow in the future. The site launched on time, secured a $5,000 order on day one and positioned the business for future expansion across regions, audiences and bulk purchasing models.
When teams align around a shared goal, acknowledge challenges early and stay solution-focused, great work follows.
